BROWNSVILLE - A Brownsville police report states how relatives tried to help the family of three injured in an explosion earlier this month.
Andrea Juarez's grandfather told police he saw the 5-year-old on fire and pulled her against him to extinguish the flames. Another relative in the home grabbed a jug of water to douse the fire.
The explosion happened January 11. According to the police report, other family members who lived in the home heard the three getting ready for their day and then a loud noise. The 5-year-old and her parents, Jesus Juarez Jr. and Iviz Machado, were caught in the blast.
Juarez reportedly later told one of his relatives that he found a package with a FedEx label on the door step, took it inside and opened it. The package exploded.
Police said the family wasn't expecting any packages that day. FedEx confirmed it didn't deliver any packages to the home.
The case is classified as an attempted capital murder.
