SOUTH PADRE ISLAND - The U.S. Coast Guard has determined what was inside barrels that washed ashore on Rio Grande Valley beaches. Beachgoers spotted three 55-gallon barrels last month on South Padre Island and Boca Chica Beach.

They were sent off for testing. It was determined the barrels had more than 150 gallons of oil. None of the oil leaked into the Gulf of Mexico.

Investigators suspect the barrels fell off a ship travelling through the area. They were not able to determine who was responsible for dumping the barrels into the gulf.
