McALLEN - Some Reynosa residents are seeking refuge in the United States from a new wave of drug cartel violence.
A Reynosa resident told CHANNEL 5 NEWS violence erupted again in that border city. She said the gun battles have happened too close to her home.
"There have been armed men outside of our home," the woman said.
"Sometimes we have to spend the night in the U.S. in order to have at least one safe night," the woman said.
U.S. intelligence officials said at least two firefights happened Wednesday between cartel members and Mexican troops.
The Mexican military rescued 73 kidnapped immigrants from a house in Reynosa earlier this month. Some had been held captive for months.
"We have to return the next day to work, but the situation is difficult," the woman said.
