HARLINGEN - A Harlingen man accused of snatching money from a clerk at a convenience store was caught trying to get away in a stolen vehicle.
Officers were called to the Stripes Store at 711 N. Ed Carey Drive Tuesday night. The clerk told police that a man had forcefully snatched a money envelope out of her hand.
The clerk said she was putting the envelope in the safe and that it only contained $70. The suspect, later identified as David Tamayo, 33, was seen fleeing in a Black Jeep Cherokee.
Tamayo was caught minutes later. Police say the Jeep had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
Tamayo now faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and theft. He was taken to jail on a combined bond of $40,000.
