VON ORMY, Texas (AP) For one San Antonio-area family, a 60-year-old tractor has become a family heirloom.
The Verstraeten clan in Von Ormy hands down tractors to the children, and a rusted 1953 Allis Chalmers Model G tractor was Brett and Corey Verstraeten's inheritance from their grandfather.
They weren't satisfied to just turn the discarded tractor, no longer practical for plowing, as a lawn ornament. They've restored it to its blaze-orange, showroom shine. Now, they're finalists in the 2013 Tractor Restoration Competition in Louisville, Ky.
The San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/17MVaK1) reports the brothers will be one of 12 teams, eight of them from Texas, judged at the Future Farmers of American Convention starting Oct. 30.
