STARR COUNTY - A group of gunmen abducted a teenager from his home is less than one minute, Starr County officials said.
"The assailants weren't on the property more than 50 seconds," Starr County Sheriff's Investigator Erasmo Rios said.
Investigators said the kidnapping was well-planned.
"This wasn't done on a whim. They didn't just drive up to a house. There was more than one person involved. There were several vehicles in the area that we believe were scouting, looking out for law enforcement," Rios said.
Deputies found the truck used to kidnap Medina 55 minutes later near the banks of the Rio Grande.
"If he is on the other side of the border, if the assailants are on the other side of the border, our hands are pretty much tied," Rios said.
Officials said the teen might not have been the intended victim.
"We do know who they were really after. They took somebody that they shouldn't have," Rios said.
The kidnappers are demanding a ransom in exchange for the teen.
