BIG FLATS, N.Y. (AP) Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. has announced plans to close its plant in upstate New York and eliminate all 570 jobs.
The company on Tuesday cited declining military budgets and a tough economy. Sikorsky's signature Black Hawk has been a workhorse for the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Employees at the facility, which has seen its ranks dwindle from a peak of 1,300, were told Monday that the plant will close as of Dec. 31. The work will be moved to Sikorsky's West Palm Beach, Fla., facility.
Sikorsky also has large-scale operations in Connecticut, Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin, as well as Poland.
