DALLAS (AP) Home and business owners and city and utility crews are cleaning up around the Dallas-Fort Worth area after savage thunderstorms left widespread damage in their wake.

Friday's cleanup comes after winds reaching up to 70 mph in parts tore through North Texas on Thursday afternoon, toppling large trees, tearing holes in warehouse roofs and peeling away the front wall of a church.

About 45 miles to the southwest, strong winds destroyed a mobile home near Joshua. Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Jamie Moore says a mother and child were injured but their injuries didn't seem life-threatening.

Hours earlier, emergency personnel rescued five children from a rapidly filling creek in southern Dallas after up to 4 inches of rain flooded the stream. All five were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
