FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Court records show that a man arrested Tuesday for killing his ex-wife after a five-hour standoff had a tumultuous marriage that ended in divorce and a protective order against him.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports (http://bit.ly/1lAGbat ) that 49-year-old John St. Angelo surrendered after police used a robot to throw tear gas inside a house where he was holed up.

A police spokeswoman said he had a self-inflicted wound. St. Angelo remained hospitalized Wednesday.

He is accused of stabbing to death his ex-wife, real estate agent Suzanne Parsons.

Court documents show that the couple's divorce was finalized Dec. 16. They filed for divorce in May, the same month that Parsons obtained a protective order against St. Angelo.

St. Angelo was then arrested in June for assaulting Parsons' brother with a hammer.
