MCALLEN - The McAllen bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious device, outside Dan Ramirez Elementary in Pharr.

Pharr officers said it's policy to call the bomb squad when checking on a suspicious device. Police and school officials state the children were never in danger. The school was not placed in lockdown; however, students were kept inside, as police conducted a search of the area.

We're told the suspicious device was not an explosive.

Traffic in the area was temporarily diverted. The scene has since been cleared.
