BROWNSVILLE - Regional swimming and diving championships in both Brownsville and Corpus Christi over the weekend decided this year's qualifiers for the upcoming state meets in Austin. McAllen Memorial was the boys' team champion at the 5A meet in the lower Valley. Several pool and regional meet records were smashed during the competition. Only the top finishing individual or team qualifies for state. The Los Fresnos boys grabbed a trip to Austin in the 200 yard freestyle relay when first place finisher King was disqualified. That elevated the Falcons to the gold medal in that event. In Corpus Christi, only one Valley 4A athlete was able to qualify for state competition. Juarez-Lincoln diver Adrian Alanis won the gold medal in diving.
