EDINBURG - A 16-year-old human smuggling suspect will soon find out if he'll walk out of a juvenile lockup. The teenager was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through Hidalgo County.
Authorities said the teenager, who doesn't have a driver's license, topped 120 miles an hour, while trying to escape with six illegal immigrants.
An 18-year-old was also arrested in connection with the human smuggling attempt. Police said Jairo Rodriguez was riding in the front of the vehicle during that chase. He faces felony charges for human smuggling, evading arrest and deadly conduct.
Rodriguez is already out of jail, after posting bond last week.
