SAN ANTONIO (AP) A San Antonio woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison in the 2009 stabbing death of her boyfriend with a kitchen knife.
Tiffany James, who was 17 at the time of the killing and claimed self-defense, was given the sentence on Friday, one day after her conviction on a lesser charge of manslaughter.
James had been charged with murder over the death of 18-year-old Antwan Wolford. Attorneys for James say she had a history of being battered by the father of her young son.
The San Antonio Express News (http://bit.ly/NAxnFX ) reports that defense attorney Robert Gebbia said he plans to appeal the manslaughter verdict.
Wolford's mother, Eashonne Wolford, says James should have received the maximum 20-year sentence.
