HIDALGO COUNTY - Francisca Salazar spoke with CHANNEL 5 NEWS to give an update on the family's situation.
The family hopes to move out of the small colonia apartment soon. A murder happened recently just a block away from their front door and their neighbor's apartment was burglarized.
Salazar and her five children are on a long list for Section 8 housing.
The children are still in school. Sergio, Monica, Daniella, Ruby and Juan Victor have friends who accept them just as they are.
Daniella is an honor-roll student. Monica is in a creative-writing group. Sergio is trying to figure out how to make money to help his mother.
Salazar's sixth child, a girl, is due in January.
