A cold front continues sweeping eastward across the center of the nation on Friday, while Hurricane Sandy produces more rain and strong winds across Florida. A low pressure system spinning over Canada continues pushing a cold front through the Eastern Valleys, producing showers and thunderstorms from the Great Lakes and Northeast, through the Ohio Valley and into the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Severe storms are not anticipated, but expect heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected. The back side of this system will create significantly cooler temperatures behind this front as it pushes cool air into the Central and Eastern U.S. from Canada. Highs will drop by 15 degrees in some areas with highs ranging in the 50s and 60s. The North-Central U.S. will remain chilly with highs in the 30s across the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains.

In the West, another low pressure system pushes a front into the Pacific Northwest, triggering more rain showers with high elevation snow showers that will extend into the Intermountain West. In the South, Hurricane Sandy will continue trekking northward through the Bahamas on Friday. The outermost bands of this system will bring heavy rains to eastern Florida and parts of the Southeastern Coast. Expect another 2 to 4 inches of rain across parts of Florida on Friday. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday have ranged from a morning low of 1 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 87 degrees at Brownsville, Texas.
