WESLACO -Texas Department of Public Safety troopers will increase their DWI patrols starting Friday.
Troopers will increase their presence at high-risk areas where alcohol-related accidents are frequent.
TxDPS Director Steven McCraw asked the public to help make roads safer during the holiday season.
TxDPS officials recommend that people have designated drivers or take alternative transportation when they consume alcohol.
Troopers made more than 1,100 DWI arrests and issued more than 15,000 citations during the 2011 holiday season.
TxDPS records show that more than 3,000 people have died in DWI accidents this year in the state.
