WARSAW, Poland (AP) President Barack Obama is highlighting democratic achievements of the past as an example for Ukraine's future as he opens a four-day European visit.
Obama arrived in Warsaw on Tuesday to commemorate 25 years since Poland emerged from communism. Before the celebration begins, Obama and Poland's president are gathering central European leaders to discuss security concerns over Russia's involvement in Ukraine.
Obama plans to use the trip to reassure NATO allies in the region that the U.S. is committed to their defense. Immediately upon arriving in Poland, Obama plans to walk to a hangar near Air Force One's parking spot on the tarmac to meet with U.S. and Polish airmen working together in response to Russia.
The United States this spring sent a dozen F-16 fighter jets to assist the mission.
