UTEP's Rotich wins steeplechase at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas-El Paso junior Anthony Rotich broke the stadium record in the steeplechase at the Texas Relays on Thursday, finishing in 8 minutes, 38.68 seconds.

Rotich broke the Mike A. Myers Stadium mark set last year by David Adams. The Texas Relays record of 8:27.70 was set by Henry Marsh in 1977 at Darrel K. Royal Stadium.

BYU senior Chase Dalton won the decathlon with 7,642 points. Arkansas' Kevin Lazas was second at 7,592, and defending NCAA champion Johannes Hock of Texas followed at 7,753.

Kansas junior Lindsay Vollmer won the heptathlon with 5,625 points, 15 ahead of Penn State's Brittney Howell. Vollmer had a 17-point lead entering the final event, the 800 meters, and the pair finished 0.15 seconds apart, with Vollmer holding onto her overall lead.
