EDINBURG - One of the new buzz-terms in collegiate athletics? "Preferred Walk-On"--which is basically an student athlete a college or university recruits, but either doesn't have a scholarship available or doesn't offer one for whatever reason. A generic "walk-on" is generally not recruited. Both the preferred walk-on and the generic walk-on must pay their own way at the college of their choice--and that includes UTPA. Just yesterday, three Valley baseball players committed to UTPA's baseball program as preferred walk-ons. Two of UTPA's coaches say walk-ons play prominent roles in their programs. See what they have to say in Vince Erickson's attached report.
