EDINBURG - A University of Texas Pan American professor has been accused of spying on a colleague after someone found a hidden microphone in an office.

The incident happened on June 8 and the device was linked to Dr. Hassan Ahmad, police said. Offices arrested Ahmad Thursday on one count of unlawful interception, use or disclosure of wire, oral or electronic communications. The offense is considered a second-degree felony.

According to UTPA, Ahmad teaches chemistry and has been with the university for 20 years. He studied in India before coming to the U.S. in the 1980s.

"University administrators are determining what action to take regarding Ahmad's position," university officials said in a statement.
