Edinburg - University of Texas Pan American's website was compromised by a hacker but is now up and running.
Late Sunday evening UTPA officials told CHANNEL 5 NEWS their website is back up and running.
When going to the UTPA website earlier during the weekend CHANNEL 5 NEWS got sent a message explaining the site had been hacked. We spoke with UTPA officials who sent us this statement about the problem.
"On Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 1:21 local time, the UTPA website was compromised causing the University to take the main website offline. Employees and students can still access most information and features of the website by browsing to my.utpa.edu. The University Information Technology and Information Security Staff are working to restore the website to full functionality before Monday morning classes resume. The University will work with local law enforcement as required to identify the party responsible. At this time it does not appear that any confidential information was compromised."
