MISSION – A Rio Grande Valley man battling cancer believes his identity was stolen and is looking for answers.

Omar Garza says he was living in his mobile home for nearly four months while his home was being built and he was shocked when his electricity bill showed with his name and account number, but the address wasn't his.

His electricity was cut off while he was in the hospital.

"They saw that they were demolishing this place or something that's when they picked up the meter number and they took advantage of it," says Garza.

Garza says he filed a police report with the Mission Police Department.

Investigator Art Flores says if you suspect your identity was stolen you should file a police report with your local agency and file a report at identitytheft.gov.
