NEW JERSEY - Two Rio Grande Valley Red Cross volunteers deployed to New Jersey are waiting for their assignments in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Janice Nichols and David Nichols said their hotel has been without power since Monday evening.

They said fallen trees and flooded streets have caused problems for volunteers trying to help. The biggest challenge is getting supplies to the areas that need them.

"We did learn this morning that there is a big truck of boxed lunches and it's on the New York side of the big bridge and the bridge is still closed," Janice Nichols said.

She said they expect to be without power for a while. More Valley Red Cross volunteers are preparing to be deployed to the East Coast.
