LOS FRESNOS - Police are looking the persons who defaced the new skate park in Los Fresnos.
The city manager said they also are trying to determine the meaning behind the graffiti.
The skate park opened five months ago, city officials said.
Authorities discovered the vandalism Wednesday night near the basketball court.
City crews painted over the graffiti but some of it bled through the paint.
Some of Los Fresnos residents are disappointed that someone would vandalize the park.
"It's wrong. They did spend a lot of money to fix it up. It's a lot better than it looked before, but respect has been lost," Los Fresnos resident Amanda Torres said.
City Manager Mark Milum said they are concerned about the meaning of the graffiti. He said they are consulting with school resource officers and scanning Facebook to find the meaning.
"We are investigating at different areas to look at similar markings people use at different places and that gives us leads," Milum said.
The city spent $125,000 on the park.
"We'd love for the judge, as part of the punishment, to make them clean up the graffiti," Milum said.
"Hopefully they catch them because they'll come back and do it again," Torres said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Los Fresnos police at 956-233-4473.
