PENITAS - A traffic violation ended in a crash that sent seven people to the hospital.
DPS spokesperson Maria Hernandez said a man in Grand Marquis failed to yield the right of way to another driver. A trooper in the area then tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refued and sped off. About eight miles into the chase, near Penitas, the driver lost control and hit a tree.
We're told there were illegal immigrants in the vehicle. Four were identified as Mexican nationals and two others were from China. The driver and six passengers were taken to the hospital.
Border Patrol officials said they expect the group to recover from their injuries. Once they're released from the hospital, the people will be processed for deportation.
