MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura and the widow of the man who wrote "American Sniper" are due to appear in federal court this week.

Ventura sued Chris Kyle in 2012 for defamation, after Kyle's book included details about a 2006 incident in which Kyle says he punched a man, later identified as Ventura. Ventura says the fight never happened.

Kyle was killed on a Texas gun range in February 2013. His widow is now the defendant in Ventura's case.

Jury selection begins Tuesday in federal court in St. Paul. Experts say Ventura's attorneys will have to prove Kyle's account was false and that Kyle either knew it was false or had a reckless disregard for the truth.

Ventura says he wants to clear his name. He's also seeking damages.
