REYNOSA - A wave of violence has gripped the border town of Reynosa.

There have been multiple reports of gunbattles and street blockades today around town. Many of the gunfights have happened near the Plaza Periferico and Boulevard Hidalgo.

One Mexican media website reported this is the most recent clash between the military and drug cartel members. Miguel "El Gringo" Villarreal was killed during the battles, Mexican media reported.

Villarreal is believed to be the former Gulf cartel plaza boss for Reynosa.
