WESLACO - Police are dealing with a wave of smash-and-grab break-ins around Weslaco. Thieves broke into 40 cars in the last month. More than 20 happened within the last week.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS learned thieves are targeting the area around Knapp Medical Center. Earlier this month, CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported about several car break-ins at the STX Gym parking lot.
We're told sometimes the cars are left unlocked. Other times, thieves are smashing in the windows.
Police warn people to avoid leaving anything valuable, especially electronics, in plain sight in your car. If you know anything about the break-ins, you're asked to call Weslaco police at 956-968-8477.
