ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Terry Gilbreath had 183 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns to lead top-ranked Wellington to a 42-20 victory Thursday against Falls City for its first Class 1A Division II title in school history.

Gilbreath scored on touchdown runs of 13 and 15 yards, also catching an 8-yard touchdown pass from Klark Ashmore en route to offensive MVP honors. Wellington (14-0) responded to a 6-0 second-quarter deficit with 42 straight points.

Gilbreath scored all three of his touchdowns during a 13:17 stretch that began midway through the second quarter.

Falls City (14-1) entered Thursday's game allowing less than 7 points per game with nine shutouts to its credit but Ashmore conducted an efficient offense that spread the field and was aided by Gilbreath's quick acceleration out of the backfield.

Ashmore finished 9 of 12 for 74 yards passing with two touchdowns, completing throws to six different receivers. He rushed 20 times for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Wellington dashed comeback hopes when defensive lineman Walker Williams swatted a backward pass and returned it 25 yards to give Wellington a 34-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fall City's Justin Twine, who is committed to play baseball for TCU, opened the scoring with an 8-yard run on the game's opening drive.

After an Ashmore interception on Wellington's first possession, Gilbreath picked off Falls City quarterback Neal Gaskamp at the Wellington 20, returning it 25 yards to jumpstart the 42-0 run.

Twine led Falls City with 117 yards rushing on 12 carries, adding two fourth-quarter scores.
