WESLACO – Some Weslaco residents are concerned about local canal waters potentially killing fish.

Maria Garcia says she has lived in the area for ten years and just recently noticed piles of dead fish along the canal.

“This isn't normal; there isn't a lot of water here. This has never happened, I have been here for many years and this has never happened,” says Garcia.

She says she doesn’t know what could be making the fish die and wonders if it’s water quality.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the Weslaco Public Works Director.

He says they had an investigator check the area and will open an investigation to look into the cause of the deaths.

Garcia says she will be following the case and hopes to receive answers soon.
