WESLACO - One of the first responders in the West fertilizer plant explosion was arrested. Bryce Reed, a paramedic, is behind bars for allegedly possessing what authorities described as a destructive device.
Federal marshals took him into custody. He's being held in the McLennan County jail.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to Reed, while covering the explosion last month. There's no indication that Reed's arrest is connected to the explosion, which killed 14 people and injured about 200.
A destructive device commonly refers to a bomb or grenade, but it can also be another type of device.
Reed delivered part of the videotaped eulogy for one of the firefighters killed in the fertilizer plant explosion. The cause of the fire and resulting blast at the plant is still under investigation.
