EDINBURG - A woman convicted in a deadly drunk driving accident will serve at least six and a half years in prison.
Belinda Cruz was arrested after she slammed into the back of a car in McAllen in July. The accident took the life of Michelle Lynette Guerrero and left Jesse Guerrero seriously injured.
Cruz on Friday pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
Cruz had two other pending misdemeanor drunk-driving cases before the July crash. On Friday she also pleaded guilty to those charges.
A judge decided that the 177 days she has served in jail so far were enough for the two misdemeanor cases.
Cruz will be eligible for parole in 2020.
