KABUL (AP) — More than two dozen members of NATO and Afghan security forces have been wounded while searching for two American soldiers.

A NATO spokesman says initial reports indicate they were wounded "due to insurgent activity." The wounded were taken to a coalition forces facility in Afghanistan for treatment.

NATO says the two U.S. paratroopers disappeared in western Afghanistan Wednesday after a routine resupply mission.

Officials say it's unlikely they were taken captive. Local police say they were swept away by a river.

NATO says exhaustive search and rescue operations continue.

Separately, NATO announced today that two American service members were killed yesterday by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.

Three U.S. service members have been killed in the Afghan war so far this month. October was the deadliest month of the eight-year war for U.S. forces with 59 deaths reported.
