Lisa Cortez
Lisa Cortez is in a unique position. She anchors CHANNEL 5 NEWS at 5 and reports for CHANNEL 5 NEWS at 10. "I really get to experience the best of both worlds, anchoring and reporting," says Lisa. After anchoring CHANNEL 5 NEWS This Weekend for more than four years, Lisa moved to weekdays in March 2007.
She joined the CHANNEL 5 NEWS team in September 2002. In her time in the Valley, Lisa has covered major crime stories, border issues, Valley politics, tropical storms, and she has been first on many breaking news scenes.
Lisa started in the news business in September 2000. She got her first job at KGNS-TV in Laredo, where she anchored and reported. Lisa is a proud Longhorn. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her bachelor's of journalism in May 2000.
Her family lives in San Antonio and Austin. In her spare time, Lisa likes to read, brush up on her writing, go to the gym, and travel to visit friends and family, and of course, for fun.
Lisa feels blessed to be a part of the exciting, fast-paced news business.
"It's really a childhood dream come true."
She says she's especially excited to cover news in the Rio Grande Valley.
"The Valley is a growing and dynamic news market. There are so many stories to be told here."
