Meteorologist Lisa Villegas made her debut with CHANNEL 5 NEWS THIS MORNING in September 2011. Viewers can watch Lisa's weathercasts weekday mornings and at noon.
Lisa comes to the Rio Grande Valley from KLFY in Lafayette, Louisiana, where she worked as the morning and evening weekend meteorologist. In the heart of Cajun country she covered ice storms, tornadoes, tropical systems, and flooding. She also covered severe weather stories including the 2011 spring flooding of the Mississippi River. Lisa went out with a bang at KLFY. She single-handedly covered Tropical Storm Lee when it made landfall in Vermillion Parish.
Lisa was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is excited to wake up with the viewers each morning and call the Valley her new home.
She is a proud graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, earning a bachelor of science degree in Applied Meteorology. During her tenure at ERAU, Lisa served as a line producer, director, and an on-air forecaster for Eagle Cast Weather TV. She also worked mornings for WSBB radio, doing weather radiocasts. In addition, she frequently substituted as a weather anchor, broadcasting in Maine and the Canadian Maritime Provinces for Maine Public Broadcasting. While doing all of this, Lisa managed to find time to serve as a certified Sky Warn Spotter, reporting severe weather updates to the National Weather Service.
Lisa is no stranger to the camera, performing on stage and in front of cameras since her childhood. Growing up in Pittsburgh was exciting for Lisa who went from child model to singing and dancing as a Civic Light Opera Mini Star. Lisa has 15 years of training in ballet. She performed with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Point Park University, and toured Europe with a Michigan Ballet Troupe. Lisa attended the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor's School of the Arts on a full dance scholarship.
Lisa can be found chasing storms and reporting around the Valley. If you have any story ideas email Lisa at lisav@KRGV.com.
