Monica Vaughan rejoins CHANNEL 5 NEWS after taking a break to start a family. Originally from San Diego, Calif., she graduated with honors from San Diego State University.
She began her CHANNEL 5 NEWS career in 1998 as a weekend weather forecaster and weekday reporter. As a reporter, she was consumer oriented, hosting the segment "Does it Work?" She is also the original founder/originator of the segment "5 On Your Side."
She met her husband here in the Valley, and although she intended to get back home, she settled here and made the transition from city to country living.
She left CHANNEL 5 NEWS at the end of 2003 to raise a family and be a stay-at-home mom. She now has three kids that she says are the focus of her life. She not only enjoys participating in their weekly activities, but she also home schools her two oldest and is a Cub Scout den leader.
Now, three kids and eight years later, she has returned as the weather anchor co-host of our Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts. She says, "This is the perfect schedule for me because it allows me to contribute in my chosen profession, which I love. And it still allows me to put my family first and be there for all the important day-to-day activities. Plus, on the weekends, I get out early enough to get to church and not miss soccer games. It's a blessing, and it's great being back with my CHANNEL 5 family."
