The San Francisco Giants signed infielder Freddy Sanchez to a two-year contract extension on Friday.

The 31-year-old hit a combined .293 in 111 games with the Pirates and Giants in 2009, hitting seven homers, 29 doubles and 41 RBI.

"We are pleased to have Freddy in a Giants uniform for at least the next two years as we continue to improve our club", said Giants general manager Brian Sabean. "We saw a glimpse of him this past season and will look forward to his All-Star caliber play at the top of our lineup and in the middle of our infield. He provides a steady veteran presence and professional approach."

A three-time All-Star who won the NL batting crown with a .344 average in 2006, Sanchez has 38 homers and 300 RBI in 733 games with the Red Sox, Pirates and Giants since breaking into the majors in 2002.
