AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency announced the 26 public school nominees for the U.S. Department of Education National 2016 Blue Ribbon Schools recognition. Three Rio Grande Valley schools were honored with a nomination.

The schools nominated were Brownsville Early College High School and two Edinburg CISD schools – Canterbury Elementary School and Norma Linda Trevino Elementary School.

All the schools nominated for the honor were selected as high performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Each school has an economically disadvantaged population of 20 percent or greater.

The 26 Texas schools now must complete an application process through the U.S. Department of Education.

Announcements of the national award winners will be made in September.
