HARLINGEN – Three people are facing charges in connection to a Harlingen murder.

Both Gregorio Ramirez and Mayra Alejandra Camero were charged with murder, arson, tampering with evidence and engaging in organized criminal activity. Ramirez’s bonds totaled $800,000. Camero’s bonds totaled $500,000.

Jesus Ramirez was charged with failure to report a felony, tampering with evidence and engaging in organized criminal activity. His bonds totaled $185,000.

Harlingen police said the case started early Friday morning. That’s when they got a call about a possible shooting at the Best Western Hotel along I-69E. Witnesses reported hearing people arguing in a Ford pickup and then a possible gunshot. They told police they saw a muzzle flash as the truck left the area.

A few hours later, a vehicle matching the truck’s description was found burning near a canal off Wilson Road. Investigators executed several search warrants, which took them to Primera, Los Fresnos and Brownsville. They arrested the three suspects Saturday night.

The investigation led officers back to the canal Sunday. That’s when they found a man’s body. The victim was shot at least once.

Authorities continue to investigate the case. This morning, they drained the canal where the man’s body was found for any additional evidence. They reported nothing was found in the water.

The Harlingen police chief said they aren’t ruling out the possibility of a second victim. They reported several witnesses said they saw more than one person shot on Friday.

Authorities said they will decide if they will return to the canal and continue their investigation.
