Teach For America Hosts Guest Teachers

Posted: Updated:

ALAMO Teach for America kicked off its annual guest teacher program this week.

KRGV-TV General Manager John Kittleman had the honor of serving as one of the guest teachers in Alamo on Monday.

Kittleman spoke to a group of students from Sascha Brown’s 11th grade class. He talked about the role media plays in business and the community. He used CHANNEL 5 NEWS’ “Noticias en Espanol” project as an example.

The guest teacher program encourages community leaders to support the goal of expanding educational opportunity.

As guest teachers, these volunteers visit classrooms that are taught by Teach for America instructors. The guest teachers are known as corps members, and they teach lessons that draw on their experience in business, media or politics.

The guest teacher program began in 1997.
