WESLACO - Every so often in a CHANNEL 5 newscast you're going to see reporters and their stand-ups. CHANNEL 5 photojournalist Elette Garza helps reporters complete this technique for their stories on a daily basis.

"A stand-up is when a reporter stands in front of the camera and gives you a brief explanation about some information. It's a different way of telling the story," Garza explained.

Reporter John Bartell did just about everything. He jumped out of brush holding a dead rat, made phone calls and popped out of cars. He even waited on officials to make sure viewers understood the story he was telling.

The reporter stand-up can take some time to prepare and there are often mistake made on the first few attempts. Garza says it took eight different tries in order to make a stand-up for one story.
