MCALLEN — A small crowd gathered at McAllen Miller International Airport on Thursday. They were welcoming Arminda Crawford, the first female national commander for the Catholic War Veterans.

Crawford said she’s happy to be back in the Rio Grande Valley.

“I love it,” she said. “I grew up in San Juan, so I'm glad to be back home."

Crawford now lives in Columbus, Ohio. She’s in the Valley for the Catholic War Veterans’ state convention.

While Crawford is happy to speak at the convention, she said, “It's just great to be home, great to be with all of our family members here."
