Weslaco Man Killed in Orlando Shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – Family confirmed to CHANNEL 5 NEWS one of the victims in the Florida club shooting is from the Rio Grande Valley. He’s identified as 27-year-old Frank Escalante.

Escalante was one of the 49 people killed early Sunday morning. The gunman also wounded dozens more. Police killed the gunman in a shootout. It's the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

On the list of the victims which police released, Esclante's name appears as Frank Hernandez. The 27-year-old was from Weslaco.

Meanwhile, United Blood Services extended its hours at its McAllen and Harlingen centers in an effort to increase its blood supply. It's making a public appeal for donors of all types. As a result of the shooting, Orlando blood banks had to import supplies from other blood blanks, including the United Blood Services.

Today, the centers will be open until 6 p.m. Tuesday, the centers will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Family, friends and the public will be honoring Escalante and all the other Orlando shooting victims at the Valley AIDS Council building in Harlingen. It'll be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at 2306 Camelot Plaza Circle.
