WESLACO – A former Weslaco city commissioner accused in a case concerning election code violations pleaded guilty.

Guadalupe Vallejo Rivera took the plea deal Monday afternoon.

Fifteen election code counts were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to one count of unlawful assistance to voter.

He was sentenced to one-year probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine. The allegations stem from the November 2013 race for his seat.

A second person, Graciela Sanchez, also pleaded guilty in connection with the case. She was given two years’ probation.

The two charges filed against Rivera’s son, Guadalupe Rivera Jr., were dropped.
