Teen’s Body Found Near Edinburg

UPDATE (5:38 P.M.): The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of a teen found dead Friday morning near Schunior and Rooth roads.

Investigators received several phone calls inquiring about the case.

Authorities identified the deceased teen as a 15-year-old girl. They confirmed that she had been reported as a runaway on Wednesday to the San Juan Police Department.

Her next of kin were notified and authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation into the cause of death.

NEAR EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a body was found Friday morning.

The body of a teen was found near the intersection of North Rooth Road and West Schunior Street near Edinburg.

The call came in before 8:30 a.m.

The sheriff said she’s between the ages of 13 and 15, but it’s still to be determined. Authorities are working to identify the teen.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS is told the McAllen Police Department responded to the call first. The call was concerning the welfare of the victim.

The young female was found on the side of the road and pronounced dead by EMS on scene. The cause of death remains unknown.  A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy.

The death is under suspicious circumstances, according to authorities.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s is continuing with the investigation.
