PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) teamed up with the City of Pharr for the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge, sponsored by H-E-B, as an effort to encourage staff and parents to take part in healthy activities.  The challenge is a 12-week competition that started at the beginning of the year and will run until March 29. As part of the challenge, PSJA ISD has provided a variety of free fitness classes every week.

It’s Time Texas is a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the health in the state by mobilizing schools, businesses, organizations and the community toward the common goal of transforming their health. In addition to motivating the community to live healthier lives, the winning community at the end of the challenge will win a $1,800 grant for health-related projects while school districts will receive a trophy and special recognition.  PSJA ISD is currently placed 3rd statewide.

Recently, PSJA ISD was featured by It’s Time Texas for offering a variety of free fitness classes to members of the community every Monday and Wednesday from 5 pm to 6 pm at the PSJA ISD Stadium. Classes offered have included yoga, Zumba, CrossFit, kickboxing and more. Besides offering free classes, PSJA ISD has continued encouraging teachers and administration to take part in the Challenge by taking the Teacher Pledge, Principals Pledge and participate in daily fitness activities.

PSJA ISD would like to thank all community sponsors and instructors who have donated their time to provide the free classes. Sponsors include Pureline Nutrition, Dynamic Fitness Academy, Elite Martial Arts Training Academy, McAllen Nature Center, New Force Crossfit and the City of Pharr Parks & Recreation.
