Pharr School Lockdown Lifted after DPS Pursuit

Posted: Updated:

PHARR – A Pharr elementary school is cleared after a DPS pursuit prompted a lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

PSJA school officials said a letter will be sent home with students from Ford Elementary explaining what happened.

DPS said a bailout happened near the school after a driver refused to stop. Troopers detained a passenger but the driver got away on foot.

School officials said the school was put on lockdown for a few minutes when law enforcement called to advise the school of the situation.

The district said it wasn’t long until the full lockdown was lifted and the district remained on Phase One status. The gates to the school were closed and the perimeter of the campus is monitored.

DPS never located the driver of the suspect vehicle.
