Runoff Races Underway in Mercedes

MERCEDES – A runoff date is set for two races left undecided two weeks ago in Mercedes.

None of the candidates for Commissioner Place 1 and 3 were able to get the votes needed to avoid a runoff.

Leo Villarreal and Leonel Benavidez will face off for Commissioner Place 1. In the May 6 election, Villarreal received 41 percent of the vote and Benavidez received 20 percent.

Armando Lopez and Cris De Leon Hernandez will go head-to-head for Commissioner Place 3.

Lopez received 46 percent of total votes and Hernandez received 38 percent.

Runoff election will be held June 10. Early voting will be held from May 30 to June 6.
