Valley Automobile Dealers Announcing Recipients of ScholarshipsPosted: Updated:
The Valley Automobile Dealers Association (VADA) and its board members are pleased to announce they have chosen the five recipients who will be awarded scholarships. The recipients will be recognized at about 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the VADA Annual Luncheon to be held at the McAllen Country Club.
These five recipients will each receive $2,500 from the VADA Scholarship Fund. The association launched the program as part of its 25th Anniversary to support dependents of full-time employees of member dealerships, full or part-time employees of member dealerships, high school seniors currently enrolled in the area high school Automotive Youth Education System (AYES), and college students enrolled in an area automotive technical college.
This scholarship allows the dealers to remain dedicated to continued education for students pursuing a career in the auto industry while also supporting their hardworking employees’ families.
“Our employees are like family at our dealerships,” says Mark Payne of Payne Auto Group and President of VADA. “And this program is a great way to support them and their children’s continued education.”
Recipients for the scholarship include three area high school seniors: Ashtyn Flores – UTRGV, Ayssa Ozuna – Sul Ross State University, and Juan Ramon Martinez – UTRGV. The final two scholarships will be given to college students currently pursuing a career in automotive technology at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville: Alejandro Herrera, Jr. Henry Escobedo, Jr., who is also a local veteran. These five recipients have met and exceeded the requirements of this scholarship. The VADA is proud to award them with these scholarships and aid in their journey for higher education.
“For local auto dealers, highly-trained technicians are extremely valuable and can be very hard to find,” said VADA Executive Director Lexi Buquet. “We are proud to invest in students right here in the Rio Grande Valley to advance their education to build a successful career in the automotive industry.”
The VADA Scholarship Fund is dedicated to increasing financial access to higher learning for its members and their dependents. With the cost of textbooks and supplies reaching up $1,194 at UTRGV per semester, this scholarship will ease the financial burden placed on students. The VADA is excited and looking forward to what path these recipients take in their future careers.
