SAN BENITO - High scoring offenses are the rule rather than the exception in Texas high school football.  Yet, defense was king in a couple of high profile victories on the first Friday night of First & Goal action.  Week one thrillers took place at both Edcouch-Elsa and San Benito.  The Jackets forced a Los Fresnos turnover in the final seconds of regulation to claim a 24-21 victory over the Falcons.  While in San Benito, the Greyhounds scored a late touchdown with under two minutes to play, then snared an interception to defeat visiting Laredo United 23-20.

The CHANNEL 5 "Game of the Week" was won by McAllen Memorial over Pioneer 41-24.  Valley road teams fared well on the night by winning 11 of 21 match-ups.  All the scores are final on First & Goal Final.  CHANNEL 5's Dave Brown has the details.
